Voy a viajar a Colombia!

Who would have thought that my next journey to a new country would begin so soon and unexpectedly! With my first travel experience starting in Europe, I am now gearing up to visit the continent of South America. In Germany, I got the chance to use the Applied Chemistry part of my degree and now I will use the Spanish part to work in Colombia. I would love to also use the Zoology part of my degree, perhaps in Asia ;)

So for those who do not know yet, I will be working and living in Colombia from June 22, 2013 to Decemeber 7, 2013. Today, Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 1:22am, I am feeling excited and eager about leaving Jamaica to go to Colombia. However, I am also missing my family already which is quite surprising.
I can't wait to step foot in that country and be welcomed there. I must admit that I have a little fear that I will get lost at the airport in Bogota. :P I just hope all will go well and my director will see me quickly and carry me to my destination. I imagine Colombia with many churches, historic buildings, lots of greenery and crowded streets with people selling souvenirs, fruits and vegetables. Perhaps I will be exposed to something else.

First I will arrive in Panama and then to Bogota and then I will go to Villavicencio, which is where I will be working. I read that there are a lot of rivers there, which sounds quite delightful to me! I am also looking forward to my new room ! I was told I will live alone in an apartment with a swimming pool ! Wonderful! :)

There are so many places I would love to see in Colombia, though I am not quite sure if I will get to see them all, as I wont travel alone sadly. So far, I am interested in seeing "CaƱo Cristales", "El Museo del Oro" , "El Museo de Botero", the Amazons and other interesting areas of indigenous people or the pre-Colombian era ;)

So, I will try to write as often as I can about my most interesting encounters while I am in Colombia, as well as also updating you on the past experiences in Europe which I have not written here yet.^^

I am looking forward to the flight as I love travelling by plane! In fact, I love long flights ;) Oh yeah, on Friday, I got my yellow fever vaccine and I will buy a mosquito repellent when I arrive in Bogota to prevent mosquitoes from biting me and possibly infecting me with malaria.

So that's all for now! I will let you know all about my trip in Colombia whenever I can :)

Until then, be happy !
